Tucked in the eastern Himalayas, Bhutan is a global model for conservation. More than 70% of its land is forested, one of the highest percentages in the world, and over half the country is designated as protected areas. At the heart of this achievement lies the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation—the world’s first environmental trust fund and a powerful vehicle for climate resilience, biodiversity protection, and community empowerment.
Through this donor-directed campaign, the Aspen International Mountain Foundation (AIMF) is honored to partner with BTF and offer U.S.-based donors a tax-deductible way to support Bhutan’s environmental vision.
Your tax-deductible donation will support vital conservation work in Bhutan.
Founded in 1992, the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation is a public-private partnership between the Royal Government of Bhutan and international conservation leaders. BTF has financed hundreds of projects aligned with Bhutan’s unique development philosophy of Gross National Happiness, which prioritizes ecological health, cultural preservation, and well-being over economic growth alone. Visit the Bhutan Trust Fund website to learn more about their mission and current initiatives:
Protected over million acres of forest and habitat
Funded 50+ community-based conservation projects
Supported environmental education in 200+ schools
Protected endangered species including snow leopards, red pandas, and black-necked cranes
Restored degraded watersheds and improved water access for remote communities
The Aspen International Mountain Foundation (AIMF) is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable development in mountain regions worldwide. Our mission is to empower mountain communities, protect fragile ecosystems, and advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through locally led solutions.
As an IRS-recognized tax-exempt organization, your donation to AIMF is fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. By giving through AIMF and designating your gift for the Bhutan Trust Fund, you ensure your support reaches trusted, high-impact projects that align with Bhutan’s environmental values and global sustainability efforts.
All contributions—after minimal processing fees—will be directed in full to initiatives supported by the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation.
