On the evening of July 25, an unprecedented meeting of the minds in Aspen, Colorado, marked the introduction of the Stanford University-based non-profit, Project Compassion, to a group of founding supporters. Honored guests of this AIMF co-sponsored event included Dr. James Doty; Geshe Thupten Jinpa, His Holiness The Dalai Lama's principal translator; Tenzin Tethong, Dalai Lama Foundation President; Pico Iyer, author of Dalai Lama bio, The Open Road; and Matthieu Ricard, Buddhist monk and author of the recent best-seller, Happiness: A Guide to Developing Life's Most Important Skill. In April, 2007, the Aspen International Mountain Foundation and the Aspen Institute sponsored a presentation by Dr. Dan Garvey, President of Prescott College, entitled "IMAGINE: Sustainable Futures Dialogues." In attendance were Baktybek Abdrisavev, former Ambassador to the U.S. from the Kyrgyz Republic, Danielle and Dr. Rusty Butler, Utah Valley State College, a delegation from Chamonix including Mr. Eric Fournier, Vice Mayor, Jacque Tomei, Chair of the Chamonix-Aspen Committee and Mr. Francois Bidault, Director and CEO of the Chamonix Mont Blanc Ski Company, and officials of the Aspen Skiing Company. Prince Harry's visits to Lesotho, while not exactly a media sensation, have generated more publicity for the tiny kingdom than just about anything else in years. Although the British royal is a media magnet who is putting the tiny country on the map, the downside is he is not being photographed holidaying in Lesotho's stunning mountains.
